Parent with hid weapon accidentally shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the dad or mum in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

The school had early launch and students were launched at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the parent, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His harm was not critical.

The college district mentioned White was contained in the constructing, near the lobby space, and not in the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials mentioned there was no risk made and the mother or father did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff had been injured. The father or mother was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days since the Uvalde mass college shooting, there have been five circumstances in North Texas related to weapons brought to colleges or threats made.

Arlington mother and father stated their minds immediately thought of the worst after they were notified.

No guardian ever wants there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

But since this week's lethal capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but think the worst after they do.

"Once I obtained the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something goes to happen.’ I used to be shocked," parent Karima Rasheed stated.

While most times, lockdowns are solely drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that figuring out what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher obtained a notification on their phone saying somebody was in the building," he mentioned.

Guns will not be allowed on faculty property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They have to go to highschool, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to happen, but you never wish to be the one statistic. What if it's your kids?" Matthew Mitchell mentioned.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington faculty and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a school taking pictures, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed said Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his school.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve bought to run wherever that’s safe and hide," she told her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too contemporary to speak politics, Mitchell said one thing must be finished now. 

"They want to speak about it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, but they don’t need to actually cross any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
