Nashville Public Library launches ‘Freedom to Learn’ campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It is a matter that is taken maintain in Tennessee: books like "Maus" or "Stroll Two Moons" have been pulled from shelves.

"Our job is just to make sure that in order for you it, it is here for you," said Public Information Officer for the Nashville Public Library, Ed Brown.

"'Maus' is all checked out proper now," said Brown. "So we obtained extra copies on order but as quickly as word received around about what occurred in McMinn County, we received a lot of holds."

Those are simply among the two million other supplies on the Nashville Public Library.

"A lot of people do not want to learn these books; they do not want their kids to have to read these books, or forced to read these books, and that's advantageous," stated Brown. "But there are so much people who do, and we wish to be there for the individuals who do want to read these supplies."

And if you want to make your love for these supplies recognized, what better approach than together with your library card? The 5,000 restricted version playing cards for the campaign say "I read banned books."

"All of us watch the TV exhibits that we like; we all watch the completely different sports activities or root for the completely different groups we're part of," mentioned Brown. "Books aren't any totally different."

The objective is to get the 5,000 library cards within the hands of latest sign-ups this month.

"We aren't making an attempt to be a push back — a drive pushing back against these decisions — we want to be a substitute for say, in the event you may not be capable of get it there... you will get it right here," said Brown.
