Mike Tyson won’t face fees in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district legal professional says

A California district legal professional declined to file charges Tuesday in opposition to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police stories and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no prices be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Office concluded its overview of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery towards another passenger on an airplane while waiting at the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe stated in a statement.

"Our determination is that we will not file any fees against Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embody the conduct of the sufferer main as much as the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, in addition to the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson that no costs be filed in this case," Wagstaffe stated.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, showing to attempt to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the individual was harassing Tyson. The video did not present what occurred earlier than the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file prices by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement businesses "for their careful, diligent, and professional work."
