Speaking within the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler mentioned, "I do not plan on coming out for the anthem going ahead until I feel higher about the path of our country."
In a blog post, Kapler questioned whether or not the nation's leadership is committed to representing its individuals's finest interests and whether the USA is truly "the land of the free and the house of the courageous.""We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he referred to as "the dearth of delivery of the promise of what our national anthem represents."
"I'm not okay with the state of this nation. I want I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I want that I might have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that while you're dissatisfied with your country, you let or not it's recognized by means of protest. The house of the courageous ought to encourage this."
